Mauricio Abril Timeline

I’m a recovering Molecular Biologist turned Concept Artist who struggles everyday with a severe addiction to pizza.

Once upon a time I graduated from UCLA with a degree in Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology, but I learned a little too late that it didn’t fit me as well as I had hoped. Eventually I found another one in my size at the Art Center College of Design in Entertainment Design. This one thankfully fit just right.

Since then I have been working as a Concept Artist in the fields of animation, video games, theme park design and illustration as well as a part time instructor at schools such as the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art and CGMA. Some of my clients include Disney Interactive, Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Creative, Ubisoft, and Hasbro.

When I’m not working at work, I can be found working at home on my own author/illustrator projects the biggest of which include one children’s book self-published through Kickstarter and two 5 min+ comic book-based films viewable on Youtube. I also love playing the guitar and singing songs in F major, but I promise if you ever lend me your ears I’ll try not to sing out of key.
